A key member of the supply team of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist) has surrendered in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Bijapur district after being disenchanted with Maoist ideology, police said here on Friday.
Aytu Sodhi alias Ramesh (25), who was a member of the Maoist area committee supply team in Pamed/Usur region in the district, gave up arms, Bijapur Superintendent of Police Kamlochan Kashyap said.
According to police, Ramesh became a Maoist cadre in 2011 as a militia member and was active there till 2017.
Ramesh told the police that in 2019 he had supplied wireless sets, clothes, electrical items and explosive worth Rs 10 lakh to Maoists.
In January this year, he supplied medicines, wireless sets, wire, clothes and items of daily use worth Rs 5 lakh to the Maoists.
After he surrendered, an immediate financial assistance of Rs 10,000 was provided to Ramesh and he will be rehabilitated as per the policies of the Chhattisgarh government, the police said.
