MCD to resume property tax collection from June 8

Thursday, 04 June 2020 | PNS | Dehradun

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) will resume the property tax collection from June 8. However, only 25 people will be allowed to deposit the property tax in a single day as a precautionary measure against the spread of Covid-19.

In the middle of March, MCD had closed the tax section for the public because of the pandemic due to which many locals could not submit their property tax.

The Dehradun deputy municipal commissioner Rohitash Sharma informed that the corporation has approved 20 per cent rebate for 15 days to those taxpayers who failed to submit property tax by March.

Besides, the same rebate is also applicable to the taxpayers of the current financial year 2020-2021. As informed earlier by tax superintendent Poonam Rawat, those who had not deposited the property tax by March will have to submit the tax of the last as well as the current financial year.

Furthermore, to ensure the implementation of safety protocols in order to contain the spread of Covid-19 contagion, the tax section of MCD will operate in Town Hall for property tax collection.

According to MCD tax superintendent Vinay Pratap Singh, the corporation will give tokens to only those taxpayers who will arrive by 11:30 AM in the MCD compound. He said that maximum 25 people will be allowed to submit the tax in a day and no entries would be approved after 11:30 AM.

"If the number of taxpayers arriving by the given time exceeds 25 people, the remaining will be given tokens for the next day," added Singh. Moreover, if any taxpayer is unable to visit MCD campus to deposit residential tax due to some reason and asks the corporation to provide the facility to submit tax from his or her home, MCD will send municipal tax inspectors to their homes to facilitate the process of tax submission, informed Sharma. It is pertinent to mention here that MCD collected about Rs 44 crore in property tax from residential as well as non-residential property taxpayers till March.
