Meet contract workers’ demands: Congress

Saturday, 11 July 2020 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

The Congress on Thursday demanded that the State Government soon fulfil all demands, including regularisation of contractual employees and stop intimidating them when they are taking to streets to press for their legitimate demands.

Addressing a Press conference, former Minister Panchanan Kanungo, Sudarshan Das and Manoranjan Dash slammed the Government for engaging highly qualified youths in different posts on contractual basis at very low salary.  The contractual workers who include staff nurse, paramedical staff, police and teachers are also working as Covid warriors now.

“A contractual Group-C employee is getting Rs 8,800 per month and a Group B is working at Rs 16,800. They are getting less than wages of unskilled and skilled labourers. The State Government has violated Supreme Court direction of ‘equal pay for equal work,” they alleged.

Stating that most of the employees are B Tech, MTech and MBA  and they are doing important works of the Government, the leaders urged the Government to fulfil their demands soon.
