As a relief for the migrant workers heading towards their native places in Odisha amid countrywide lockdown for coronavirus outbreak, the State Government has decided to provide them shelter at schools and hostel buildings.
The district Collectors and Municipal Commissioners have been directed by the Government to make all basic amenities available to the migrant workers till the lockdown period is over.
“A large number of migrant workers inside and outside Odisha have decided to leave their workplaces and return to their hometowns/villages. Due to the lockdown and stopping of public transport arrangements, it is hereby directed that the district Collectors and Municipal Commissioners may use the closed-down schools and hostel buildings as temporary shelters to house such stranded migrant labourers in their districts/ municipal corporations and make all basic amenities available to them till the lockdown period is over, following social distancing guidelines,” an order of the GA & PG Department said.
