Amid a spurt in coronavirus cases in Chhattisgarh, the government is trying to complete the construction of special Covid Hospitals in different parts of the state.
Health Minister T.S. Singh Deo on Thursday chaired a meeting of the state Control and Command Centre and reviewed the readiness of the hospitals. He told officials to quickly finish the pending work.
To identify new Covid-19 patients, he asked officials to speed up the process of setting up testing labs at the Bilaspur, Ambikapur and Rajnandgaon Medical Colleges.
Currently, the RT-PCR test for confirming coronavirus takes place at AIIMS Raipur, Raigarh, Raipur and Jagdalpur Medical College, SRL (private lab) and Dr BR Ambedkar Memorial Hospital Raipur.
Officials said that 2,000 more beds in 10 dedicated hospitals are being arranged for the patients of the pandemic.
According to Health Department officials, currently AIIMS Raipur and Dr BR Ambedkar Memorial Hospital Raipur have separate 500 beds each for coronavirus patients. Likewise, at Jagdalpur and Rajnandgaon Medical Colleges, 200 bed hospitals are available.
The Mana Civil Hospital Raipur, Bilaspur District Hospital, ESIC Hospital Korba, Ambikapur Medical College and Shankaracharya Medical College Bhilai also have the capacity for 100 beds each.
Additionally, 115 isolation centres across the state have 5,515 beds to treat Covid-19 patients.
