Miscreants attack police post after associates’ arrest, cop injured

A policemen was injured after the acquaintances of a man and his two brothers, who were detained by the police at Inderlok Police Post in North Delhi following a scuffle and loot with a bakery shop runner, allegedly opened fire at police post and also pelted stones. 

A video of the incident was also doing rounds on social media. In a CCTV footage of the incident, the men could be seen entering the police post and indulging in a scuffle with police personnel with batons while the police were trying to control the situation.

According to a senior police official, on Wednesday at around 10 pm, the accused were detained after one Akhlaq who runs a bakery shop in Inderlok area filed a complaint with police that he was allegedly harassed by the shop owner’s son Saadkeen and his brothers.

"The accused went to his shop and asked for free food but when Akhlaq denied, they got angry and a scuffle broke out following which they looted the shop and beat up Akhlaq," said the senior police official.

Police said that after the incident Akhlaq came to Inderlok police post and stated that Sadkeen and his brothers beat him and also looted his shop. "Sadkeen and his other brothers were brought to police chowki by the staff for questioning where they got aggressive and fought with police perosnnel. After they were detained, their associates came to police post with batons and also pelted stones. One among them identified as Naved also fired at the chowki. In self defence Sub-Inspector Pankaj fired two rounds in the air," said police.

Meanwhile, one of the policemen suffered injuries on his head during stone pelting. He was taken to hospital and is undergoing treatment.

"A case has been registered in this regard and Sadkeen, Ashkeen and Shahrukh have been arrested in connection with the incident.While efforts are being taken to trace others and nab them," said Monika Bhardwaj, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), North district.
