Incidents of loot or conmen diverting the attention of people and making away with gold chains and bags containing cash and valuables have been on the rise in the city. Despite efforts to curb the incidents by police the situation remains the same.
The latest to fall in trap is a police personnel. Two motor-cycle borne miscreants on Tuesday evening looted Rs 2 lakh cash from a policeman near Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) under Bariatu police station.
The victim police personnel, Suresh Thakur posted as ASI at Silli police station after withdrawing cash from State Bank of India (SBI) Bariatu branch was going towards the main road when two bike borne miscreants looted the cash.
A police personnel posted at Bariatu police station said, “Thakur after withdrawing the cash from SBI had gone to post mortem room at RIMS for some official work.
When Thakur was returning from the post mortem room, two bike borne miscreants whose faces were covered snatched the bag containing cash.”
The Bariatu police officer said that they are going through the CCTV footage.
Sources said that people coming out of banks after withdrawing money have been the victims in a majority of the cases. Though such incidents are frequently occurring in various parts of the city, the police are not able to control the situation.
Majority of snatching incidents occurs during afternoon and late evening hours when it is difficult to identify snatchers.
Snatchers grab the victims from the back and snatch their chains, earrings and other ornaments and escape from the scene within seconds. They target women who pass through deserted areas.
On June 13, unidentified criminals snatched Olympian Deepika Kumari’s mother Geeta Devi’s gold chain when she was on her way home from the market under Ratu police station. However, Ranchi police recovered her stolen gold chain on the day her daughter tied the knot with international archer Atanu Das.
