Modi Govt 2.0, a year of total failure: Markam

Sunday, 31 May 2020 | Staff Reporter | RAIPUR

The first year of the Narendra Modi government 2.0 is responsible for pushing 40 crore Indians under the poverty line, igniting communal fires and bringing a black law on citizenship, Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee Chairman Mohan Markam said on Saturday.

Markam said that while claiming it was performing well, the BJP lost the assembly elections in Maharashtra, Delhi and Haryana and then formed a coalition government in Haryana.

The Congress leader added that demonetisation and Goods and Services Tax (GST) were implemented wrongly due to which demand fell.

Now, in this corona pandemic period, after a sudden unplanned lockdown and the economy nosediving in all sectors, the Modi government has come up with a Rs 20 lakh crore package.

“Who is responsible for the fall of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the last four years? Why Make in India collapsed even after so much hype? Did the poor, middle class, farmers, workers, small traders and those working in private sector benefit from the Rs 20 lakh crore package,” Markam asked.

He demanded that the Modi government should accept that both demonetisation and GST have failed.

Markam said the Modi government also failed to control the Covid-19's entry into the country, saying had it begun screening of passengers at airports early on, the country could have averted the high number of Covid cases which have reached over 1.70 lakh.
