Monsoon Session ends with Govt, Opp tug of war on policies

Wednesday, 23 September 2020 | PNS | Ranchi

The last day of Monsoon Session of Jharkhand Assembly once again witnessed noisy scenes with ruling party and Opposition members engaging face to face over policy issues.

The BJP members raised the Jharkhand High Court Monday decision, under which the Court scrapped the process of appointment of around 8,000 teachers in the 13 reserved districts of the State.

The first half of the morning session was washed out due to BJP legislators’ protest. The BJP legislators entered the well of the House demanding for work adjournment. However, Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto turned down their demand. As the Assembly proceeding was disturbed the Speaker adjourned the house for one hour.

However, when the Session resumed the BJP legislators once again started protesting. The Speaker later suspended BJP MLA Randhir Kumar Singh for half day asking marshals to remove the legislator.

The BJP legislators alleged that the State Government did not put up its stand strongly in the High Court on the local policy issue. However, when the BJP members were raising the issue in the well of the House, members from the ruling party too reached the well protesting against BJP MLAs. The ruling party members alleged that the High Court scrapped the appointment process due to Raghubar Das Government’s wrong policies.

BJP member from Chandankiyari, Amar Kumar Bauri said that the Hemant Soren government claims to be well-wisher of tribals and moolvasi, but in reality the government is anti-tribal and anti-moolvasi.

Bauri alleged that the State government defending their officers in Court hires top advocates but in the case of high school teachers no big lawyers were hired by the state Government.

Bauri said contrary to the allegations that BJP favours outsiders in the recruitment process, in the high school recruitment process locals were given preference.

The BJP MLA demanded an explanation from the Chief Minister on this issue.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren replying to the allegations made by Bauri and other BJP MLAs said that the High Court has struck down the appointment process of High School teachers due to wrong policies of the earlier government. Soren said it is a court decision; the government will take any stand only after consultation with legal experts.

Soren said the earlier government carried out work, which was against law.

Soren said due to earlier Government lack of vision much of recruitment policies such as high school teachers, assistant policemen have become controversial.

The Raghubar Das Government conducted the appointment process and around 9,000 teachers were appointed in phases in both scheduled and non-scheduled areas during a two year period from 2017 to 2019.
