With various parts of the state experiencing light to moderate rain, not only are the people experiencing some relief from the heat but the forests too are benefiting from the change in weather. According to the forest department, there was no active forest fire point in the state on Friday evening. Meanwhile, similar weather is forecast for Saturday with the possibility of hail/lightening/intense shower at isolated places in the state.
According to the State meteorological centre, the state is likely to experience partly to generally cloudy sky on Saturday with light to moderate rainfall/thunderstorm very likely to occur at many places. Further, gusty wind ranging from 30 to 40 kilometres per hour are also likely to occur at isolated places in the state on the weekend. Additionally, hail/lightning/intense shower are also likely to occur at isolated places in the mountainous regions of the state on Saturday. In Dehradun, the meteorological centre has forecast partly to generally cloudy sky with the possibility of rain/thunderstorm likely to occur. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 30 degrees Celsius and 20 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun. Meanwhile, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded at various places on Friday were 31.4 degrees Celsius and 21.6 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 34 degrees Celsius and 23.8 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 19.8 degrees Celsius and 10.3 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 21.2 degrees Celsius and 12 degrees Celsius respectively in New Tehri. On Friday evening, the meteorological centre reported that the maximum temperature had fallen by four to six degrees Celsius in the plains and four to nine degrees Celsius in the mountains during the past 24 hours. The maximum temperature is likely to decrease further by two to three degrees Celsius during the next two days.
The change in weather has come as a boon for curbing forest fires. According to the forest department, there were no active forest fire points in the state on Friday evening. During the forest fire season this year, there have been 109 incidents affecting 134.93 hectare area so far.
