New guideline on number of guests at weddings

Tuesday, 24 November 2020 | PNS | Lucknow

In view of the spike in COVID-19 cases, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to limit the number of guests to a maximum of 100 at weddings and other functions across the state.

As per the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, any social, educational, sports, entertainment, cultural, religious, political programme, or other group activities would be permitted with a ceiling of 100 people.

Face masks, social distancing, thermal scanning, sanitiser, and hand wash will be mandatory in the programmes.

An advisory issued by the state government on Monday said that now against the permission of 200 people in a closed area outside the containment zone, only 100 people would be allowed in any marriage, political or social gathering.

However, in the open area, the restriction will be 40 per cent or less of the total area where the function is being held.

The chief minister Yogi also directed the officials to ensure compliance with all guidelines and orders to control the spread of the novel coronavirus infection.

Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Amit Mohan Prasad advised people not to take senior citizens to marriages or social gatherings as they were more vulnerable to the novel coronavirus.

“The novel coronavirus infection is increasing among senior citizens and now it has reached 10.13 percent of the total positive cases, which is a matter of concern. The case fatality rate (CFR) among people above 60 years of age is also above 45 per cent,” he said.

Prasad said that UP had been able to contain the positivity rate below 5 per cent as at present it was 3.2 percent till now even as in November it was just 1.6 per cent. The case fatality rate (CFR) was also just 1.43 per cent, he added.

Meanwhile, 2,067 more COVID-19 cases were detected in UP during the past 24 hours.

Prasad said the recovery rate in the state had now come down to 94.07 percent.

As many as 4,97,475 COVID-19 patients have recovered in the state, including 2,060 during the past 24 hours.

At present there are 23,776 active COVID-19 cases in the state out of which 10,948 are in home isolation, 2,405 in private hospitals and the rest in government-run Covid hospitals.

The death toll reached 7,582 on Monday evening with 23 deaths during the past 24 hours.

As many as 1,45,704 samples were tested on Sunday and wit it 1,81,31,693 samples have been tested in UP, the highest in the country.

Around  4.61 surveillance teams have so far visited 2.92 crore houses in the state and have checked the health of over 14.30 crore people.
