As many as 16 Navnirman Krushak Sangathan [NNKS] activists were arrested on the charge intercepting district Collector SK Mohapatra’s vehicle near his residence on Friday.
The NNKS activists were protesting demanding fulfilment of a few demands pertaining to farmers of district and urged the Collector for a meeting.
The agitators intercepted the Collector’s car when he was on his way to office and slept on road for a few minutes. The police requested the activists to clear the road but they did not follow the order. Consequently, they were arrested.
Meanwhile NNKS followers informed that the district administration was delaying in providing Fani cyclone damage assistance and farmers were facing problem in disposing of their paddy at the procurement centres.
“Several times we have approached the Collector and CSO, Agriculture authorities taking up various problems of the farmers but it yielded no results,” alleged NNKS State leader Sesadev Nanda.
