No plan to impose total lockdown in Bhopal: DC

Thursday, 16 July 2020 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal

Amidst rampant speculations that the State capital could be put into total lockdown for some days, district collector Avinash Lavania here on Wednesday clarified that administration has no plans of doing so, at least in near future.

“For the time being, we will persist with Sunday lockdown when all commercial establishments will remain closed barring those supplying essential commodities. And locals would not be allowed to step out of their homes on Sundays”, he said.

Rumours of lockdown in Bhopal and Madhya Pradesh were making rounds in full vigour on social media as Covid-19 fresh cases are on the rise since the unlock was implemented in the State.

“We have no proposal under consideration for imposing lockdown in Bhopal, said the collector adding those areas where infection is spreading rapidly will be put under stringent measures”, he added.

Recently total lockdown was imposed in Ibrahimganj area in old Bhopal after fresh cases of infections were reported from there in herds.

Bhopal’s situation has not worsened so much that is why absolute lockdown isn’t required and meeting of District Crisis Management Committee isn’t being organised, added the collector.

He however accepted that locals are not abiding by social distancing norms in shops and offices adding that such people are subjected to penal action by local authorities.

A similar decision has also been taken in Indore recently which has reported spike in fresh cases of infection. Meanwhile Gwalior is put under total lockdown for a week, starting from Tuesday.

Shivraj Government’s publicity department too tweeted a message on Wednesday clarifying that there are no plans to impose total lockdown in Madhya Pradesh from Thursday.
