Not caste or religion, merit key to jobs in UP: Yogi

Saturday, 24 October 2020 | PNS | Lucknow

Asserting that merit was the only criterion for jobs in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that fairness and transparency in recruitment was the hallmark of his administration.

“There is no scope left for irregularities in recruitment in the state. Despite this, if corrupt practices are found in the process, jail will be the only destination for the guilty,” the chief minister said addressing a virtual function to distribute posting letters to the newly-appointed assistant teachers in Lucknow on Friday.

The chief minister reiterated that the transparency with which appointments were made was proof of his government’s commitment towards ensuring a free and fair process in this regard.

Recalling corruption in UP Public Service Commission (UPPSC) during the previous regimes when appointments were made on the basis of caste and religion, Yogi Adityanath said that those days were gone and now merit was the only consideration for jobs.

“Today, everyone needs to be technically updated as technology is the key to transparency. If the government lags behind, it will be impossible to extend benefits of pension, Kisan Samman Nidhi and other allowances to people in tough times like this. The way education is being imparted on-line today could not have been possible if we were not technically updated,” the chief minister said.

On the occasion, the chief minister also spoke with newly-appointed assistant teachers Jagmohan Singh, Nikhat Pravin, Hemprabha Ojha, Smita Jaiswal, Manish Kumar Mishra, Manisha Thapliyal and Jyoti Gaur.

Playing guide and guardian, Yogi Adityanath told them that teachers were guides to children and thus their responsibility increased manifold.

“If a teacher imparts education with passion and energy, his/her students will have the ability to bring about positive change in society,” the chief minister asserted.

Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma said that regularisation of educational sessions, exams, timely declaration of results and exams sans copying were the achievements of the Yogi government.
