One person was killed and six injured after a two-storey house collapsed in an explosion in a firecrackers unit in Surir area of Mathura, police said on Saturday.
Superintendent of Police (Rural) Shree Chandra said that there was an explosion in Jogendra’s house in Surir Kalan village after midnight on Friday that led to his two-storey house collapsing and cracks developing in the adjacent houses .
The police were informed about the blast and they started the rescue work.
The Police and administration officials also reached the spot after some time and relief work was started on a war footing.
Seven people were rescued from the rubble but by that time, Jogendra (25) succumbed to his injuries.
Indravati (55), Jogendra’s wife Shivani (22), Bobby (40), Savita (18), Mahendra (48) and Deepanshu (13), who were injured, were taken to the primary health centre where Savita, Mahendra and Deepanshu were discharged after first aid.
Shivani and Bobby are undergoing treatment at the district hospital.
In view of her critical condition, Indravati was sent to the Agra medical college for better treatment.
As per the police, firecrackers were stocked illegally in Jogendra’s house and there was a sudden explosion in them.
Senior Superintendent of Police Dr Gaurav Grover has ordered a probe into the incident. The chief fire officer at Mathura will soon submit his report.
A case was registered against Indravati in connection with the case.
