Foundation-stone for a permanent campus of the Odisha State Open University was laid on Saturday at Badasinghari Mouza of Sambalpur district by VC Dr Srikant Mohapatra in the presence of Registrar Dr Manas Ranjan Pujari and faculty members.
The university had started operating on June 19, 2015 from a small temporary building in the GM University campus with the first batch comprising 250 students. Now, it has a students’ strength of over 30,000. In 2018, the World Bank under the Odisha Higher Education Project for Excellence and Equity (OHEPEE) had sanctioned Rs 15 crore for a permanent campus of OSOU and 40 acres of land has been allotted to the university in Badasinghari Mouza adjacent to the GM University second campus and IIM campus near Goshala, Sambalpur. The Higher Education Department has entrusted the responsibility for construction of the boundary wall of OSOU to the Odisha State Police Housing and Welfare Corporation (OPHWC).
