Over 2 lakh subscribers for police’s YouTube channel on cyber security

Monday, 07 December 2020 | PNS | DALTONGANJ

After the success of a 35 page cyber security awareness handbook launched by state police, its YouTube cyber security channel has got over two lakh subscribers and 34 lakh viewers, said an official note of the state police.

A source close to cyber frauds said that the police move to check and control cyber crimes and frauds is more seriously watched and monitored by the cyber thugs than others as they then change their modus operandi to undo the move of the police against them.

The DGP M V Rao has asked his SPs to find out such people who live a flamboyant lifestyle, throw parties, flaunt lavishness, arrange “band baja baraat” of princely style,  move in luxury cars but no one knows about them as to from where their wealth comes in and what their source of money is.

Sources said such people are on the radar of the police as such amassing of wealth can be easily linked to fraud and foul means of the cyber crimes.

Sources said police are to take help of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to move against such people who have unaccounted wealth and lead a luxurious life in open.

Sources said such property/asset amassed through cyber fraud is to be seized and police are actively working on it with coordination from the ED.

IG of police Navin Kumar Singh said the DGP has asked state police officials to curb and contain cyber crimes with all might. Singh has sought people’s co operation in it with focus on digital literacy.

Sources said the state police’s handbook on cyber security awareness is in Hindi and English. There are popular demands to make available this handbook in a few tribal languages too which are spoken in Jharkhand. Sources said awareness on crucial issues like this in local dialect always gets immediate overwhelming response.

The DGP in another bold initiative has put state’s cyber police stations under the direct command of the IPS on probation here. Rao has also mandated police officials of every rank to be well trained in cracking cases related to cyber crimes.

Sources said cyber police stations had some such officers who had never their fingers on the keyboards of the desktop or of the laptop.

Cyber police station in Daltonganj is now under the command of assistant superintendent of police K Vijay Shanker an IPS on probation, said SP Palamu Sanjeev Kumar.

Jharkhand began to be targeted by cyber frauds only since 2016 as in this year alone state recorded 497 cases of cyber crimes and before 2016 the state police had not even a column for cyber crime in its annual or monthly crime record.
