Over Rs 26K crore paid to workers

The Uttar Pradesh government has paid over Rs 26,000 crore in the last one month to the migrant workers working in different sectors, including various MNREGA projects across the state, so that they may tide over their financial crisis.
Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Awasthi said here on Sunday that 33.79 lakh labourers working in different construction sites in cities and rural areas were paid Rs 1,000 each, resulting in total expenditure of Rs 337.90 crore. Similarly, he said, against Rs 2,772.10 crore as due under MNREGA, Rs 2,333.70 crore had been paid and the rest would be cleared shortly.
“Industrial activity has also started gaining ground in the state. At present 70 units manufacturing personal protective equipment are in operation in UP. These are not only fulfilling the demands of the state but also exporting PPEs to other states,” Awasthi said.
Besides, he said, 1,127 flour mills, 503 oil mills and 332 pulse mills were in operation in the state.
Awasthi said that the total number of Covid tests were nearing 30,000 as on Saturday labs across the state carried out 29,119 tests. “The average of the tests in the last three days is 27,569. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has set a target to carry out 30,000 tests on a daily basis and we will achieve that,” he said.
As per the government records, 2,703 rapid antigen tests and 1,468 TruNat tests were carried out on Saturday. The maximum tests, 3,579, were carried out in KGMU, Lucknow followed by 2,148 in SGPGI, Lucknow, 1,178 in IMS, BHU, Varanasi, 1,344 n Meerut Medical College, Meerut, 1,041 BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur and 1,006 MLNMC, Prayagraj.
Awasthi said  that there were 8,161 active cases in the state while the recovered patients’ count was 18,761, including 607, who were discharged from hospital on Sunday.
“There are 2,826 hotspots in the state under 807 police station areas covering 8.29 lakh houses and 48.38 lakh population,” he said.
