The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Ambikapur said on Saturday that it nabbed a Patwari red handed while taking a bribe of Rs 4,000 from a farmer who wanted to sell paddy under the Chhattisgarh government’s paddy procurement programme.
Anup Sinha sought the bribe from a farmer of Pathakpur village in Surajpur district to enlist his agricultural land in government records, the ACB said in a press release.
For selling paddy under the state government’s paddy procurement programme, registration of agricultural land is mandatory, it added.
For the registration of his land, the Patwari first wanted to be paid Rs 5,000 but later agreed to accept Rs 4,000, it said.
The farmer reported the matter to ACB’s Ambikapur office on September 11 and a trap was laid.
The Patwari was arrested on Saturday with Rs 4,000 in village Latori, Surajpur district, by the ACB after he took the money from the farmer, the press release said.
