The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Raipur, has begun the exercise to start plasma therapy treatment of Covid-19 patients.
An official tweet of the institute said that necessary preparations in the blood bank were on. Many of the patients who had been cured are willing to donate their plasma and the process of taking it was on as per the guidelines of the Indian Council of Medical Research.
It said a plasma donor can donate 500 ml of plasma at a time and 200 ml in two parts out of it could be given to two patients.
At present one patient has donated his plasma to the hospital.
Plasma therapy involves transfusing certain components from the blood of people who have recovered from a virus attack into people who are very sick with the virus or at high risk.
According to the WHO, the experience in the past suggests that the empirical use of convalescent plasma can be a potentially useful treatment for Covid-19.
