A folk play Chaurache Chaturya will be performed on Friday under Abhinayan series of drama. The play will be featured on Madhya Pradesh State Tribal Museum YouTube Channel.
It is to be noted that the play is in Marathi Tamasha Style. The play is being directed by Aamber Sirdhonkar, Sangli.
Traditional Tamasha is influenced by many Indian art forms and draws from such diverse traditions as kaveli, ghazals, Kathak dance, dashavatara, lalit and kirtan. In Maharashtra, the Kolhati groups are traditionally associated with the performance of Tamasha.
Tamasha is mainly performed by the 'Kolhati' community of Maharashtra. No special stage is required for its presentation, it can also be done in an open space. In this presentation, the Lord Ganesha is worshiped first and then to Galwana / Goulniyar.
In the spectacle, a variety of verbal sarcasm and pseudo-questions are also contested by Natukani, Songadya and other characters. At the end of it, there is always the message of victory over good and evil over evil.
The play will be performed under the regular series of dramas ‘Abhinayan’ organised every Friday by the museum. Due to COVID 19 the gatherings are dismissed and so Madhya Pradesh State Tribal Museum started the series online. It has been started for the art lovers of the city who were missing the plays and musical events. The play will be broadcasted at 7 pm.
