Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra stressed the urgent need for carrying out more tests of COVID-19 suspects, saying that only early detection could help in checking the spread of the deadly coronavirus.
“To stop the spread of coronavirus, the only way is to go for maximum tests so that we can treat the affected. ‘Do maximum tests, treat the patients’, should be our pledge to fight the pandemic,” Priyanka tweeted on Monday.
She also asked Congress workers to exert pressure on the local authorities to conduct more tests to check the spread of the virus.
After Priyanka exhorted partymen to step out of their homes and help the authorities in fighting the pandemic, UP Congress started ‘Sanjhi Kitchen’ in several districts of the state.
On Sunday, a ‘Sanjhi Kitchen’ to feed the needy was started at Congress headquarters in Mall Avenue.
Congress spokesman Brijendra Singh, after starting the kitchen in Lucknow, said that similar services were started in the party’s district offices in Varanasi, Fatehpur, Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida), Bulandshahr, Hapur, Ghaziabad and over a dozen other districts on Monday.
Singh said that directions had been issued to all district and city chiefs of the party to make necessary arrangements so that no one in the state slept hungry. He said that besides food packets, party workers were distributing sanitisers and masks to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
