Punjab has 19 deaths as toll reaches near 4,000; 427 fresh cases

Punjab on Saturday witnessed 19 more Covid-19 fatalities pushing the death toll to 3999, while 427 new cases took the state’s infection tally to 1,27,154, according to a medical bulletin. The latest fatalities reported in the state include three each coronavirus death in Amritsar and Pathankot, two each from Gurudaspur, Hoshiarpur, SAS Nagar and one each from FG Sahib, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Mansa, Ropar, Sangrur and Tara Taran, the bulletin said.

The places which reported new cases include Jalandhar (73), Ludhiana (54), SAS Nagar (48), Gurudaspur (12), Bathinda (27), Patiala (28), Pathankot (22), Fazilka (21) and Amritsar (36), it said. There are 6230 active Covid-19 cases in the state as of now, according to the bulletin.

 A total of 760 coronavirus patients were discharged after recovering from infection, taking the number of cured people to 1,16,925, it said. Twenty two critical patients are on ventilator support while 140 are on oxygen support, the bulletin said.  A total of 23,00, 669 samples have been collected for testing so far in the state, it said.

CHANDIGARH HAS 54 FRESH CASES, 1 DEATH

One more person died due tp Covid-19 in Chandigarh on Saturday as 54 fresh infections surfaced, taking the number of cases to 13, 582 in the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana.  So far, coronavirus has claimed 207 lives in the union territory, according to a medical bulletin.  There are 915 active cases in the city as of now, it said.  A total of 108 patients were discharged after they recovered from infection, the bulletin said, adding that 12, 460 people have been cured of the disease so far. A total of 94, 462 samples have been taken for testing till now and of these, 80,308 tested negative while reports of 121 are awaited, the bulletin said.

1,148 fresh Covid-19 cases take Haryana tally to near 1.5 lakh, 6 more die

Chandigarh: Six more people succumbed to Covid-19 in Haryana on Saturday, taking the State's death toll to 1640, while 1148 fresh cases pushed the infection tally to 1,49,081, according to the health department's daily bulletin. Of the latest fatalities, three were reported from Karnal while one each from Bhiwani, Panchkula and Jind, the bulletin stated.  Among the districts which reported a big spike in cases are Gurugram (271), Faridabad (159) and Rohtak (129) and Hisar (118). A total of 1318 Covid-19 patients were cured and released after recovery from the different hospitals of the State, taking the total count to 137, 176.  Currently, the number of active Covid-19 cases in Haryana stands at 10,265. The State has a recovery rate of 92.01 per cent, fatality rate 1.10 per cent while doubling rate at 41 days, the bulletin said.
