Raman Singh seeks free treatment for Covid-19

Wednesday, 16 September 2020 | Staff Reporter | RAIPUR

Accusing the Chhattisgarh government of failing to stop the spread of Covid-19, former Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Raman Singh on Tuesday sought free medical treatment to those in need.

The government has also failed to provide the necessary infrastructure in hospitals for treatment of patients, he said in a statement to the media.

He demanded free medical treatment to those in need. In the prevailing situation, people are already facing an economic crisis. With fixed rates in hospitals, it would further add to the woes of the people, he said.

Dr Raman Singh said: “The former BJP government in the state and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had started Health Smart Card and Ayushman Bharat scheme respectively for free treatment of various health ailments.

"Smart Card has a limit of Rs 50,000 while Ayushman scheme has a limit of Rs 5 lakh. Had they been in place, they would have played a major role to the beneficiaries."

But after the Congress came to power in the state, in the name of providing Rs 20 lakh limit of medical treatment, it launched the ‘Universal Health Scheme’. The scheme has not been implemented, he added.

Now, the state government is asking people to cough up medical charges and pats itself for fixing the rates for the treatment in private facilities, he pointed out.

The BJP leader said now people are coming out on roads to protest on a daily basis in large numbers. This will further spread the epidemic.
