Random tests on frontline workers encouraging

The Uttar Pradesh government said that coronavirus tests carried out on frontline workers, chemists and pharmacists across the state had shown encouraging results. The government agencies carried out over 26,000 tests on Friday.
Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Amit Mohan Prasad said that random sampling of frontline workers, chemists and pharmacists in 75 districts of the state was carried out recently. “A total of 12,299 samples were collected. Of these, positive cases were found in 26 districts that too in 70 people, constituting of merely 0.85 per cent,” Prasad said during a briefing on Saturday.
The additional chief secretary claimed that similar random sampling of vendors, street hawkers, urban slums dwellers and others were done and the ratio of positive cases was under 1 per cent.
Prasad said that 26,061 tests were carried out on Friday, taking the number of total tests to 8.34 lakh so far.
“Of these, 1,973 tests were 5-sample and 302 10-sample pool tests. In the 5-sample pools 264 were found positive while in the 10-sample pools, 57 were found positive,” he said.
“Around 1.59 lakh health teams have covered 1.16 crore houses across the state to screen over 5.94 crore people in 25,855 areas, including 10,220 hotspots. There are 7,630 people in isolation wards of Covid hospitals and 4,420 in institutional quarantine,” the additional chief secretary said.
