“The Yogi Adityanath government has set an example in the country by raising the voice of women and daughters by starting a successful Mission Shakti campaign,” Usha Vishwakarma said.

The Red Brigade Trust, an NGO started by Usha Vishwakarma with an army of 15 girls, mostly victims of sexual harassment, now has over 200 girls who give martial arts and self-defence training to women and victims to defend themselves from criminals and strengthen them emotionally and mentally.

Surviving on donations, the Red Brigade Trust has trained over 1.57 lakh girls in martial arts and self-defence techniques across the country since 2011.

Usha Vishwakarma has received 15 national awards, including the 100 Women’s Achievement Award and Rani Laxmi Bai Award. She was also honoured by former President Late Pranab Mukherjee in 2016 and with the Devi’ Award in 2019 by UP CM Yogi Adityanath.

These techniques are specially designed keeping various possible situations of sexual harassment in mind and can be executed in less than 20 seconds. It also organises training and awareness campaigns in the rural and urban areas of the state on a regular basis to make women and girls physically and emotionally strong.

She had also won Rs 12 lakhs in Kaun Banega Crorepati in  2018 and was praised by Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan.
