Remote Niti valley along Indo-Tibet border gets 4G connectivity

Thursday, 26 November 2020 | PNS | Dehradun

Following the efforts of the state government, residents of the Niti valley along the Indo-Tibet border in Chamoli district will now be able to access mobile phone connectivity. Chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat virtually inaugurated two Reliance Jio 4G mobile towers- one each at Juma and Suki in the Niti valley on Wednesday. These will also facilitate 4G internet connectivity for the people in this area.

Congratulating the locals on the occasion, Rawat said that 4G connectivity will facilitate various activities including trade and online mapping in this border area. The people will now also be able to submit online applications and do other works. People in the border areas will also benefit from the works being undertaken by the government in the sphere of e-governance. He said that during the investors summit, talks had been held with Reliance chairman Mukesh Ambani regarding Jio services.

Ambani had said then that Jio would provide its services without its main focus on the profit or commercial aspects, adding that connectivity would be provided in the remote areas of Uttarakhand to facilitate connectivity in the border areas. The CM thanked Ambani for the developments on Wednesday.

The two mobile towers inaugurated in the Niti valley will provide mobile connectivity to residents of Juma, Jelam, Kaja, Garpat, Laung, Tamak, Bakransu, Fagti, Tolma, Surai, Suki Mallagaon and Lata villages. Earlier, villagers had to travel upto 45 kilometres for mobile phone connectivity. As a number of army and ITBP personnel are also present in this region along the Indo-Tibet border, the 4G connectivity will also benefit the armed forces. By December 15 Jio will set up 10 more mobile towers and by March 2021, it will set up 25 mobile towers in the border areas. By March next year, most of the border villages in Chamoli district will have 4G connectivity.

Along with the Badrinath MLA Mahendra Bhatt, the event was virtually attended by Garhwal MP Tirath Singh Rawat, IT advisor to the CM, Ravindra Datt, Jio state head Vishal Agrawal along with other public representatives and company officials.
