On the first day of Unlock 1.0, unidentified miscreants opened fire and snatched Rs 22.70 lakh from a cashier of Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) who was heading to a bank to deposit the money in Aligarh on Monday.

In the process, four persons suffered gunshot wounds and a woman was also deprived of her valuables by the brigands.

On their part, senior officers rushed to the scene, sealed major intersections and launched a hunt for the robbers. However, two hours of combing failed to yield any results.

A case was registered and CCTv footages were being scanned by the police to identify the culprits.

As per reports, the staff of Cash Management Service Company went to LIC office at Samad Road in Civil Lines police station area of Aligarh to transfer cash on Monday morning. As the cashier came out with the money, three motorcycle-borne youths approached him and butted his head with a revolver while his two aides warned the security guard to be still. They later snatched the cash bag containing Rs 22.70 lakh and tried to escape.

Meanwhile, a security guard opened fire to foil the loot bid but the miscreants returned the fire in which four persons were injured. Before fleeing the scene, the brigands also snatched the ear rings of a woman passer-by.

Later, the district police chief formed five teams to crack the case. Assistance of Special Task Force sleuths was being sought to ascertain the identity of the criminals.
