A huge consignment of ganja sourced from Odisha was seized by police in Bhadohi of Uttar Pradesh from a private bus on Sunday.
Police also arrested four persons including the driver of the bus in connection and seized the vehicle which is registered in Andhra Pradesh.
Those arrested were identified as bus driver Shyam Sundar, Manohar Sona, Sadhu Kumar and Diwakar Behera. All of them are natives of Malkangiri in Odisha.
Sources said based on inputs from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), the Bhadohi police and the Crime Branch intercepted the bus and during search found 14 quintals of ganja packed in 47 bags. The contraband’s estimate market value is worth Rs 1.5 crore, said a senior police official.
The contraband was to be delivered in the nieghbouring Azamgarh district. But the accused don’t know the identity of the person it was supposed to be delivered.
During interrogation, the bus driver revealed that one K Raju of Andhra Pradesh was the kingpin of the racket and they worked for him. Besides, he also owned the bus.
