The Friday death was of a retired government school teacher, who was admitted at Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) from Bhagwan Mahavir Medica Superspeciality Hospital as the patient health deteriorated. Sources said that in both the cases (retired army man and teacher) they were earlier admitted at Bhagwan Mahavir Medica Superspeciality Hospital, but were referred to RIMS after their health deteriorated.

Confirming the death, State Health Secretary Nitin Madan Kulkarni said, “The patient was admitted at RIMS on Friday early morning from Medica after his health deteriorated.” Kulkarni said that the health department has issued show cause notice to Bhagwan Mahavir Medica Superspeciality Hospital in both the incidents.

Sources said that the 70-year-old retired teacher and resident of Simdega was admitted at Medica with kidney aliments, but during treatment it was found that he was corona positive. Sources said that the patient was referred to RIMS in serious condition and he died reaching RIMS early morning.

The retired jawan who died on Thursday was admitted in the Neurology Wing of the hospital on Wednesday after he fell from a terrace and sustained severe head injuries earlier this week.

The deceased was referred to RIMS from Medica Superspecialty Hospital, where his swab samples for Covid-19 tests were collected. However, he died while undergoing treatment at the neurology wing of RIMS by the time his test result was out, doctors said.

The army jawan was cremated at city’s sole gas crematorium at Harmu Muktidham amidst police protection. The crematorium which is gas based became functional this month after remaining dysfunctional for more than a decade.

The second death of corona patients in State has come when State Government is planning to move towards giving more lockdown relaxations.
