Delhi Police has arrested a 24-year-old alleged sharpshooter of Hashim Baba gang after a brief exchange of fire from east Delhi’s Shahdara area.
The accused has been identified as Sachin Kumar, a resident of Nand Nagri.
According to Pramod Singh Kushwaha, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Special Cell, on Monday, information was received that Kumar, who was wanted in several cases of murder, attempt to murder and extortion, will come to Shahdara along with his associate.
“Later, a trap was laid near Shyam Lal College at Shahdara. At 11.25 pm, accused was spotted near the college. He was asked to surrender, but the accused took out his pistol and fired at police,” said the DCP.
"Police team also fired and overpowered him. One pistol, along with three live cartridges, and a motorcycle were recovered from his possession, the DCP said.
"He was involved in several criminal cases. On May 28, Kumar, along with his associates, killed one Haider on the directions of Hashim Baba. Haider was related to their rival Nasir gang," the DCP added.
