A total of 6,02,013 women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) are operating in the State now and most of them are engaged in supply of goods and services under various departments. By supplying goods and services, they have so far made businesses worth Rs 805.12 crore.
Women and Child Development Minister Tukuni Sahoo informed this in the State Assembly in response to a question of BJD MLA Umakant Samantray on Saturday.
The Minister said that the SHGs are providing dresses to pre-school children at Anganwadis and preparing take home ration (THR) for the children under the Women and Child Development Department.
Besides, many have been engaged in meter reading and collection of electricity tariff under the Energy Department, fishing at gram panchayat ponds under the Fisheries and Animal Resources Department, procurement of paddy under the Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department and supply of foods to schools under the School and Mass Education Department.
