Acclaimed shooter Vartika Singh had a brush with controversy when she announced a reward of Rs 51,000 for anyone helping in the arrest of absconding Tablighi Jamaat chief Maulana Mohammad Saad Kandhalvi.
In a video message posted on the social media, Singh asked the government to book the cleric for sedition as he had endangered the lives of millions by hosting a congregation at Tablighi Jamaat’s Nizamuddin markaz in Delhi in the midst of coronavirus spread.
“The Tablighi Jamaat chief has thrown the nation into a crisis. Number of coronavirus positive cases have spiked in the country after the Jamaat meet. This man should be arrested without delay. I have announced the reward so that people come forward with inputs on his whereabouts,” she said
Controversy is not new to Vartika Singh. In December last year, she wrote a letter in blood to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, demanding that the four convicts in Nirbhaya gang-rape case be executed by a woman.
Earlier in September 2019, Babri case plaintiff, Iqbal Ansari had alleged that he was attacked by Singh in his house. “She came to my house with a male companion, introduced herself  and said that she wanted to speak to me. As I let them in, she started discussing issues like triple talaq and Ram temple. But suddenly, she started hurling charges at me and blamed me for the delay in temple construction. She became aggressive and got into a scuffle with me. My security personnel helped me get away and inform the police,” Ansari had told reporters in Ayodhya and later lodged an FIR at Ram Janmabhoomi police station.
Singh was subsequently taken to Mahila police station in Ayodhya and questioned about the incident.
Meanwhile, Hindu Mahasabha general secretary Puja Shakun Pandey was booked by Aligarh police on Monday for allegedly making inflammatory comments targeting Tablighi Jamaat markaz in Delhi.
An FIR was registered against Pandey on the basis of a complaint filed by former Samajwadi Party MLA from Aligarh, Haji Zameer Ullah Khan.
She was charged with sections 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc), and 505 (2) (statements creating or promoting enmity hatred or ill-will among classes) of the Indian Penal Code.
Elsewhere in Auraiya, a person claiming to be a journalist was arrested and sent to jail for spreading rumours on social media and obstructing official work on Tuesday.
Shailendra Singh of Anantram Sarai area posted on social media that 4-5 Jamaat members had come from Delhi, were holed up in his neighbourhood but later disappeared on April 5. The post sent shock waves and soon went viral. A complaint about the post was made by Ashfaq Khan of Anantram area after which the police probed the claim but found it to be untrue. Later, the police reached Shailendra’s place only to find him running his tailoring and cosmetic shop despite the lockdown. On being questioned on this score and also the post, he tried to bully the cops, claiming himself to be a journalist.
The police said that the man carried a card of a news channel which expired on November 22, 2019. On cross-checking with information officer, it surfaced that no journalist by that name was registered.
The accused was arrested and sent to jail on charges of spreading rumours on social media, obstructing official work, violating prohibitory orders, negligence and strengthening the possibility of spread of coronavirus by opening shop illegally.
