SI suspended for keeping beard sans permission

Friday, 23 October 2020 | PNS | Lucknow

A police sub-inspector posted in Baghpat, Intesar Ali, has been suspended and attached to the Reserve Police Lines for growing a beard without taking prior permission.

This was confirmed by officials on Thursday.

Ali had been warned thrice to shave off or seek requisite permission to keep a beard. However, he did not seek permission and continued to keep the beard.

Baghpat’s Superintendent of Police Abhishek Singh said that as per the police manual, only Sikhs were allowed to keep a beard while all other policemen had to remain clean-shaven.

“If any police personnel wants to keep a beard, he has to seek permission for it. Intesar Ali was repeatedly asked to seek permission but he did not comply with the order and kept the beard without permission,” the SP said.

Ali joined the police force as a sub-inspector and is posted at Baghpat for the past three years.

He told reporters that he had applied for the permission to keep a beard but got no response from the officials.
