Chhattisgarh Police on Sunday arrested six persons, including a Home Guard and two minors, for stabbing to death a 54-year-old Home Guard in Chhattisgarh’s Janjgir-Champa district.
Janjgir-Champa Superintendent of Police Parul Mathur told The Pioneer that the accused included mastermind Home Guard Santosh Madhukar (44), his son Jay Prakash, Jay Prakash’s friends Manish Shastri (22) and Sunil Pankaj (24) and two minors. All of them have been arrested on charges of murder.
On September 24, Home Guard Rajju Prasad Tiwari was stabbed to death in Kataud village in the district.
Based on the technical analysis of CCTV recordings and call detail record (CDR) data, police came to know about the presence of the accused Home Guard and the others at the crime scene.
During interrogation, Santosh, who planned the murder, revealed that he had taken a loan of Rs 1 lakh on interest a few years ago from Tiwari. Santosh had paid back about Rs 2-3 lakh but failed to pay the full interest due to his wife's ill health.
Tiwari reportedly insulted Santosh and abused him while asking him to return his money. Then, Santosh planned to kill Tiwari.
Both the Home Guards visited a wine shop in Kataud village on September 24 and consumed liquor.
While returning home, Santosh and the other accused stabbed the victim and fled from the spot.
Police have recovered five knives, two bikes, mobile phones and blood-stained clothes from their possession.
