nChhattisgarh's Director General of Police (DGP) has directed all Superintendents of Police (SPs) to conduct a security audit of VIPs, saying they will be totally responsible for their safety when the leaders undertake tours.

This follows a government directive to further enhance the security of all MPs, Ministers, MLAs and other VIPS.

DGP D.M. Awasthi on Tuesday held A review meeting and issued detailed guidelines and directives to all the SPs.

It stated all "special important persons" have been provided security, based on individuals.

Awasthi directed all the SPs to hold a security audit of MPs, Ministers, MLAs and other very important persons.

This is to access the regularity of the Personal Security Officer (PSO), their discipline, alertness and capability. The DGP made it clear that during the visit and tours of VIPs, the concerned SP will be totally responsible for their security.

SPs should also include fitness of the vehicles provided to the VIPs, their maintenance and physical fitness of the drivers as part of security audit.

The directive says that on each trip of the Chief Minister, not only adequate security should be given but the advance security liaison (ASL) should be conducted.

Additional security should be provided in Naxalite-affected areas mainly Bastar division, Rajnandgaon and Kawardha. The road opening party and ‘anti sabotage team’ should conducted regular checks if the VIP is travelling by road. Security should be provided at various venues and rest houses.

The DGP underlined that there should be no inadequate number of security personnel  If the VIP spends a night in these areas, a responsible officer should be deputed to manage security.

AIG (Security) Police Headquarters should prepare the technical structure and hold continuous monitoring of VIP movement, the directive said.
