State’s 1st woman DM passes away

The State’s first woman district Collector Chandramani Narayan Swami passed away at her residence here on Sunday. She was 81.

The Odisha-cadre IAS officer had served the Government in key posts. She preferred to take VRS from service in 1994 citing health reasons of her mother and aunt.

A gold medalist in English and Mathematics, she had penned many poems, short stories and novels and also translated several poems, short stories and novels into English.

Swami, a native to Kerala, was fluent in Odia language. She had chosen Odisha as her per permanent home. An ardent devotee of Lord Jagannath, she made a will to donate her properties to the Lord after her demise.
