State BJP chief suffers heart attack, now stable

Friday, 08 May 2020 | PNS | Ranchi

Jharkhand State BJP unit president Deepak Prakash was admitted to the critical care unit of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi after he suffered a massive cardiac arrest on Thursday morning. Angioplasty was performed on Prakash, after which his condition is said to be stable.

Angioplasty, also known as balloon angioplasty is a minimally invasive endovascular procedure used to widen narrowed or obstructed arteries or veins, typically to treat arterial atherosclerosis.  RIMS director Dr DK Singh said, “The condition of patient is stable after Angioplasty operation was carried on him. He will be kept under observation of doctors for next few hours and later he will be shifted to private ward.”

As the news of BJP president’s cardiac arrest spread, leaders cutting across party lines drove RIMS to enquire about Prakash’s health condition. Chief Minister Hemant Soren along with Health Minister Banna Gupta and others reached RIMS to take stock of the situation. Soren said, “I met Deepak Prakash ji. Doctors said that his condition is fine and he will be discharged very soon.”

In the afternoon BJP legislative party leader and Prakash’s old friend Babulal Marandi also reached RIMS to enquire about his health condition. Marandi also talked to doctors enquiring about his old friend health’s condition.

Meanwhile, Union Tribal Affairs minister Arjun Munda enquired about Prakash’s health condition from Delhi and wished speedy recovery of BJP State president. Munda, the Khunti MP also thanked doctors at RIMS for quick treatment of Prakash. Former chief minister Raghubar Das also enquired about Prakash health condition. Das also talked to RIMS director Dr DK Singh.

In the evening a Congress delegation headed by State Congress chief Rameshwar Oroan and other Congress leaders visited RIMS to enquire about Prakash’s health condition.

Meanwhile, in the morning as news of Prakash’s cardiac arrest spread large number of BJP leaders and party workers thronged RIMS.

Prakash an old war horse of state BJP has political experience spanning more than four decades. On February this year, Prakash, who was then state BJP general secretary was appointed as State president by national president, Jagat Prakash Nadda. Prakash succeeded Laxman Gilua, who stepped down from his post due to party’s humiliating defeat in last Assembly election.

Prakash, apart from Nadda is also close to BJP legislative party leader Babulal Marandi. The closeness Prakash enjoys with Marandi can be gauged from the fact that in 2006 when Marandi decided to leave BJP along with Marandi and other BJP leaders too left BJP. However, his honeymoon with Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) did not continue for long as after three years he once again returned to BJP.

A month later appointment of Prakash as state president, the BJP on March 11 named Deepak Prakash as its Rajya Sabha candidate from Jharkhand.
