Buoyed by the success of plasma technique in treatment of the COVID-19 patients, the doctors at the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital here have started making necessary preparation for the use of this method. The plasma technique uses the plasma extracted from the patients who have recovered from the disease. The plasma is infused into the patients of the disease. On Friday the chief minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal had claimed that the results of use of plasma technique have been very encouraging.
The nodal officer for COVID-19 in GDMC and pulmonary diseases expert, Dr Anurag Agarwal informed that the hospital has started preparing for plasma therapy. He said that the patients who have recovered from the disease would be called to the hospital after these preparations are complete. The plasma extracted from one patient can help in treatment of four patients.
It is pertinent to mention here that so far 11 patients of the disease have been treated successfully in the GDMC hospital. In the plasma therapy technique the plasma is extracted from the blood of the donor who has recovered from the disease.
The plasma contains antibodies which the patients had developed against the virus. This antibody when introduced in blood stream of new patient helps in fighting the virus.
