State to get 13 new Eklavya Vidyalayas: Min

The Minister for Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes, Minorities and Backward Classes Welfare Department Champai Soren said that development cannot happen without education and the Department is committed to ensure that children from each and every family get good education. Soren announced the results for the selection test for the academic session 2020-21 for Eklavya Vidyalaya and residential schools in Ranchi on July 7.

The Minister further stated that in this regard for children belonging to tribal communities, scheduled castes and backward classes living in the remote areas of Jharkhand, 13 new Eklavya Vidyalaya in addition to the seven already functional in the State are being opened.Soren said that the Department is running 143 residential schools. A competitive exam was conducted by the Department against 4,500 vacancies in class VI, VII and VIII in 81 schools and as many as 85,525 students took the exam. Students who have passed the exam can collect their results from the District Welfare Office while those selected will be contacted for enrollment.

Soren further stated that in this exam priority was given to children of tribal communities, scheduled castes and backward classes living in rural areas so that they too can get quality education. The Department is making efforts to strengthen the education and housing system in the State.

The Minister further added that in various competitive examinations students of residential schools have got fame to the State. A total of 1906 students appeared for the secondary examination 2018-19 out of which 90 percent of them succeeded out of which 70 percent passed with first class and more than 30 percent secured more than 75 percent marks. The passing percentage of 22 residential schools has been 100 percent.

Tribal Welfare Commissioner Shishir Kumar Sinha, Joint Secretary Ajay Nath Jha, Special Executive Officer CK Singh and others were present on the occasion.
