Delhi Police has nabbed a 28-year-old tempo driver who allegedly mowed down an on-duty Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) from traffic department in southwest Delhi’s Rajokari area on July 25.
The accused has been identified as Amit Pulami, a resident of Mahipalpur area in National Capital.
According to Devendra Arya, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Southwest district, on July 25 around 8 pm, an accident took place on NH-8 near Rajokri Flyover where ACP, traffic, Sanket Kumar Kaushik was hit by an unknown vehicle.
“Kaushik was rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre where he was declared brought dead. The statement of Kaushik’s driver was recorded who said that around 7.45 pm, while the ACP was walking through the service lane Rajokri flyover, a goods carrier vehicle came from Gurugram side, hit him and sped away,” said the DCP.
“Police checked the piece of an iron angle recovered from the spot and found that the vehicle was a tempo. The CCTV footage ascertained that the incident happened at 7:48 pm and the offending vehicle was a tempo with white driving cabin and brown body,” said the DCP.
“Details of all the tempos with similar body and color passed through MCD toll tax booth at Delhi-Haryana Border, NH-8 were collected. All the records from Cargo of IGI Airport were obtained and analyzsed. All the warehouses in Rajokri, Mahipalpur, Kapashera, Samalkha, Bijwasan were examined and their records of moments of vehicles also checked,” said the DCP.
“During scanning of CCTV footage, a vehicle was noticed near the spot. Later, it was found that the suspected vehicle came from Rangpuri towards Gurugram through service lane and took a U-turn under the Rajokri flyover and moved towards the spot,” said the DCP
“On Friday, the vehicle was traced in Rangpuri, Mahipalpur, and the driver was apprehended from the parking. Interrogation revealed that on July 25 around 7.45 pm, the accused was going toward Cargo IGI, from his warehouse at Rangpuri, Mahipalpur,” said the DCP.
“When he was on a service lane near the Rajokri Flyover and trying to enter NH-8, he hit the ACP, who was crossing the road. Thereafter, he reached at Cargo for his consignment delivery. Next day, he repaired the tempo at a garage in Rangpuri, Mahipalpur,” the DCP added.
