Chhattisgarh Police on Saturday seized 810 kg of cannabis valued at Rs 1.62 crore and arrested two persons in Chhattisgarh’s Mahasamund district who were transporting it from Odisha to Delhi.
Mahasamund Superintendent of Police Prafull Kumar Thakur told The Pioneer over telephone that the arrested men were truck driver Sakir Hussein (32) and his cleaner-assistant Khalid (20), both residents of Rajasthan.
The action was taken based on a tip that the contraband was being transported to Bihar from Delhi via the Mahasamund National Highway NH-53, Thakur said.
Police intercepted a truck (RJ-02, GA-5686) during checking near Temri village in the Komkhan police station limits, he added.
The police seized 165 packets of cannabis, each weighing 4.90 kg, from the truck. The drugs were packed in 26 gunny bags and concealed behind empty plastic containers.
A mobile phone, Rs 3,300 in cash and the truck were also seized.
