Police busted a notorious burglar gang that was involved in several burglaries in Ganjam district in 2019 by nabbing two of the members on Wednesday night.
The two accused were identified as Santosh Sahu of Reddika Sahi in Patapur and Deepak Mahapatra of Khalingi village under the Patapur police stationPolice recovered 540 gram gold, 100 gram silver and 100 gram silver jewellery, a car, three motorcycles, two TVs, a laptop and two cameras along with other materials from their possession. The cops also arrested three receivers of the stolen items Manoj Senapati (56) of Krishnamapeta Sahi, Siba Shankar Sahu (41) of Dharmanagar and Rabindra Kumar Sahu (39) of Acharya Street.
The two accused had looted gold jewellery weighing around 600 gram and Rs 4.42 lakh cash from the house of one Sunil Panigrahi in Bedabandha Sahi under the Gosaninuagaon police station on September 23 night. The next day, a case was registered under Sections 457 and 380 of the IPC.
Besides, several cases of house burglary were reported from various places, including Lochapada, Shakti Nagar, Govinda Vihar, Banchhanidhi Nagar, Saradhabali and Basanta Vihar in 2019. To detect cases, teams were formed led by the Brahmapur SDPO and IICs of Gosaninuagaon, Badabazar, B Town, BN Pur, Digapahandiand and Sadar police stations under direct supervision of Brahmapur SP.
