An under-trial prisoner (UTP) at the Jharpada Special Jail here died while undergoing treatment at hospital on Tuesday.
Later, his swab sample later tested positive for Covid-19.
The deceased Jugal Khandual was an accused in the chit fund scam and had been lodged in the jail since 2019.
Khandual complained of fever, following which he was admitted to a Capital Hospital here on September 13 and then shifted to the SCB Medical College Hospital, Cuttack, where he died.
His swab sample was collected for coronavirus test and it tested positive. He had come in contact with several inmates in the jail.
The jail authorities have asked the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) for test of the inmates.
