The State’s Agriculture and Horticulture Minister Subodh Uniyal informed the Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar about problems being faced in agriculture and horticulture sector in Uttarakhand amidst the ongoing lockdown for containing the spread of COVID-19. Uniyal informed the Union Minister about these issues while attending a video conference chaired by Tomar with agriculture ministers of the States regarding issues being faced in the sector.
Uniyal informed that problems are being faced in securing farm workers in Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts. He also mentioned the loss being suffered by the floriculture business during the lockdown.
He informed that as precautionary measure in the Mandis, 15x10 sanitiser tunnel is being set up in such places. Further, no Mandi fees is being charged on perishable items and mobile vans are being loaded directly at the Mandi, informed Uniyal. Additional chief secretary and agriculture production commissioner Om Prakash, agriculture and horticulture secretary R Meenakshi Sundaram along with other officials were also present in the video conference.
