UP focuses on random testing  of people coming from Delhi

In view of the rising novel coronavirus positive cases in Delhi, the Uttar Pradesh government has started random testing of people coming from the national capital as the state registered 2,588 fresh COVID-19 cases during the past 24 hours, taking the tally in the state to 5,26,780.

“The authorities increased Covid testing after Diwali and on Saturday 1,75,128 tests were done. This was done to ensure that people across the state, particularly in the National Capital Region, could be tested vigorously,” Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Amit Mohan Prasad said here on Sunday.

He said in November, the positivity rate in the state remained at 1.6 percent, well below the national average.

“Five districts, namely Gautam Buddha Nagar, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Lucknow and Varanasi, have a very high positivity rate while districts like Ambedkar Nagar, Balrampur, Hathras, Kanpur Dehat and Shravasti have the lowest positivity rate in the state,” Prasad said during his daily press briefing.

Prasad said that the recovery rate in the state had come down to 94.04 percent from 94.09 percent since Saturday .

A total of 4,95,415 COVID-19 patients have recovered in the state, including 2,187 during the past 24 hours.

At present, there are 23,806 active coronavirus positive cases in the state out of which 10,902 are in home isolation, 2,356 in private hospitals and the rest in government run Covid hospitals.

The COVID-19 death toll in the state reached 7,559 on Sunday evening with 37 more people succumbing to the dreaded virus.

On Saturday, 1,75,128 samples were tested in the state taking the number of Covid tests to 1,79,85,811, the highest in the country, according to the additional chief secretary.

Around 4.60 lakh surveillance teams have so far visited 2.91 crore houses in the state and have checked the health of over 14.27 crore people.

Reports on Sunday evening said that 351 fresh cases were reported in Lucknow with six COVID-19 deaths, 118 in Kanpur, 110 in Prayagraj, 189 in Ghaziabad, 171 in Gautam Buddha Nagar, 102 in Varanasi and 283 in Meerut.
