UP tops country in  digital transactions

Sunday, 20 December 2020 | PNS | Lucknow

With sustained and focused emphasis of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on assimilation of technology with economy, Uttar Pradesh has become the number one state in the entire country in digital transactions.

This year, about 126 percent more digital transactions took place than last year as the people in the state have embraced digital transactions like nowhere else in India.

An official communiqué of the state government released on Saturday claimed that Yogi Adityanath had instructed banks to promote digital transactions in the era of novel coronavirus pandemic, specially as it would help in maintaining safety protocol issued by the Union Health Ministry.

He had stressed that as the present era was of technology, the people should know and use technology for speed and transparency in work.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, under the direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the work that the state government did was in the best interest of the people, and this was made possible only by embracing technology.

The effect of the chief minister’s appeal is also visible in data and statistics — till September, Rs 1,76,46,000,00 worth of transactions have been done, which is Rs 98.53 crore, more than the total transactions done in the same period last year, official sources here said on Saturday.

The people in the state have made the highest payment of Rs 60.31 crore from UPI. After this, payment of Rs 47.79 crore has been made by the people with debit cards. Similarly, a transaction of Rs 20.43 crore has been done from the net and Rs 16.36 crore has been transacted through other means.

Apart from this, payment of Rs 11.47 crore has been made from NEFT. Payment of Rs 6.90 crore has been made through credit card, Rs 6.61 crore from IMPS, Rs 6.59 crore from Aadhaar. The State Bank of India has identified Siddharthnagar and Firozabad districts as digital districts. The objective is to promote digital payments in both the districts in a quick and convenient manner within a year by expanding and strengthening the digital payment ecosystem. Siddharthnagar district is one of the statistical districts selected by the Government of India. The RBI has fixed the deadline of 31 March, 2021 for this.
