UPA, BJP spar over handling of Covid-19

Tuesday, 14 July 2020 | PNS | Ranchi

BJP State president Deepak Prakash on Monday lashed out at the Hemant Soren led government saying that the State Government has failed in Covid 19 management and is playing with the health of the people. The BJP state president, who was recently elected as Rajya Sabha MP claimed that from the beginning the government was not serious in handling pandemic.

Prakash said, “The Government was neither serious in implementing lockdown seriously nor the testing facility extended. The result of government lack of seriousness was visible as neither legislator, minister followed government rules.”

The BJP leader said that the Saffron party from the beginning had warned the State Government, but the Hemant government was busy in gaining self-praise and cheap popularity.

Prakash said that the number of infected patients is increasing in the state day-by-day, but the government is sitting idle and least interested about increasing testing facilities. The Government's lack of preparation can be gauged from the fact that there is a shortage of Covid beds at hospitals in State Capital the situation in rural areas is even worse. The Government has left the people of State on God’s mercy. He said, “People in the States are panicking knowing that there is a serious shortage of beds in hospitals.”

The Government which could not ensure necessary facilities for patients in four months has no moral right to remain in the Government. The Government has run away from its responsibilities on all issues. The State Government is also not short of money to fight the epidemic. But the Government is only busy in contract leasing, transfer posting.

Defending the allegations made by BJP State president, Congress spokesperson Lal Kishore Nath Shahdeo said, “ The allegations made by BJP chief is baseless as the Hemant government has played an active role in tackling Covid 19 crisis. The Government during lockdown has provided door to door ration. Jharkhand is the first State which is very much serious about migrant workers returning to Jharkhand from other states as the first train carrying migrant workers reached Ranchi.”

He said, “The Hemant Government had said that if required the Government will airlift migrant workers and in this connection migrant workers were airlifted from Mumbai, Leh and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.” The Congress spokesperson claimed that the State Government is serious on increasing bed facilities at RIMS Ranchi as in the past few days the number of patients has increased due to more and more testing facilities.

Echoing the views of Shahdeo, JMM general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya said, “The Raghubar Das government of BJP in the last five years has ruined the health sector. The Hemant Soren government with its limited health resources which it has inherited from the BJP government is handling Covid crisis in a better way.” Attacking BJP MPs, Bhattacharya said, “BJP has 16 MPs and two union ministers from State but none of them have managed to even get a ventilator in State.
