Against the backdrop of coronavirus pandemic, widows of Vrindavan and Mathura observed International Widows’ Days by launching special silk and cotton designer masks with a theme linked to Lord Krishna on Tuesday.
Over 1,000 such masks were launched during a webinar that was attended by numerous people across the globe.
Masks with designs of mor pankh (peacock feather), bansuri (flute) and other themes of Lord Krishna will be sold on online portals.
“These mothers, confined to their ashrams, have expressed interest in designing masks and chose images revolving around Lord Krishna. Sulabh International extended support to them. During lockdown, widows learnt the art of mask making and have prepared more than 5,000 khadi/cotton masks and distributed them to people, sanitation workers and government employees,” said Sulabh International Vice-President Vinita Verma.
Verma said that organisations like Khadi and some known brands are being contacted to provide these masks a market.
On the occasion, Master Chef Vikas Khanna joined ‘Widows from New York’ and arranged a large number of food items, medical supplements and herbal drinks for widows in Vrindavan.
In the light of Supreme Court directives, Sulabh International takes care of widows living in various ashrams. The outfit provides them medical facilities and vocational training and arranges for their day-to-day needs.
