After the Kanpur carnage on last Friday that left eight police officers and personnel dead, the police seemed to getting into action mode. In this continuation, a dreaded criminal with cash reward of Rs 50,000 for his arrest was shot dead in an encounter with the police in Bhadohi late on Monday night.
Crime Branch in-charge Ajay Singh Senger was hit on his leg by a bullet fired by the criminal, constable Sachin Jha survived after being hit on bullet proof vest.
As per reports, a police team was in checking vehicles at Chakia village of Suruva police station area around 1:30 am on Tuesday when two persons on a bike were spotted. On being asked to stop, the riders allegedly opened fire at the cops. In retaliatory firing, dreaded criminal Deepak Gupta was killed while his aide managed to flee.
The police recovered a revolver and a country-made pistol lying near the felled criminal.
Gupta was a native of Suriva and was wanted in 14 criminal cases. He was also involved in a murder in Bhadohi and had fled from police custody in Varanasi some years back.
The Bhadohi police had announced a reward of Rs 25,000, the Ambedkarnagar police of Rs 15,000 and Varanasi police of Rs 10,000 for his arrest.
